About us
Finance Arranged by a Practising Dentist, for Healthcare Professionals
Apex Funding Partners exists because the person arranging your funding has signed the same guarantees, sat through the same valuations and run similar practices.
The founder
Dr John Barry
John qualified as a dentist and has practised for four decades — and still practises today. Over that career he has bought and sold more than twenty dental practices, financing each one through goodwill lending, commercial mortgages, asset finance and working capital facilities.
He has been on the receiving end of every part of the process: the valuation that came in light, the underwriter who did not understand the difference between NHS and private income, the completion that slipped because nobody chased the lender’s solicitor. Apex Funding Partners was set up to remove those frustrations for other clinicians.
The distinction is not decorative. Our clients are not simply looking for money. They want someone who understands practice valuations, goodwill, acquisitions, equipment, associates, NHS and private models, and the day-to-day reality of running a clinical business alongside treating patients.
What it changes
What a clinical background does to a funding application
Most declines in healthcare lending are presentation failures, not credit failures. The business is sound; the submission simply did not answer the questions the underwriter was going to ask.
Knowing the sector from the inside means the awkward points are addressed before they become objections — and it means we can tell you when a practice is overpriced, when an associate dependency is a genuine risk, and when the right advice is to walk away.
- NHS contract income benchmarked and explained against the national picture
- Principal drawings normalised so profitability is read correctly
- Associate contracts, notice periods and dependency addressed upfront
- Goodwill valuation tested against real transaction evidence
- NHS, plan and private income separated rather than presented as one line
- Equipment already owned identified as security to reduce the cash contribution
How we work
Four commitments
Independent placement
We are not tied to a lender, a network or a panel we own. Cases go where they work best for the client, and we disclose how we are paid.
A straight answer
If a deal does not stack up, we say so at the first conversation rather than after three weeks of paperwork and a valuation fee.
One point of contact
You deal with John. Not a call centre, not a case handler you have never spoken to, and not a different person at every stage.
Total cost, not headline rate
Arrangement fees, legals, valuation, exit charges and the true cost over the life of the facility — all set out before you commit.
Our clients are not just looking for money. They want someone who understands what happens in the surgery as well as what happens in the accounts.

Mission
Why Apex Funding Partners exists
Our mission is to empower medical and dental professionals with trusted, tailored financial solutions that simplify business ownership and support sustainable growth — offered by a fellow practising clinician.
The longer-term ambition is to be the financial partner healthcare professionals turn to first: for the first practice, the second site, the freehold, the equipment and eventually the exit. That is a relationship measured in decades, not in a single transaction.
We work with clients across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, from our office in Thurso, Caithness.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Yes. He continues to treat patients alongside running Apex Funding Partners. It is deliberate: staying in clinical practice keeps the commercial advice grounded in what is actually happening in surgeries, with NHS contracts and with recruitment right now, rather than in what was true a decade ago.
In most cases by commission from the lender when a facility completes. On some cases, particularly complex acquisitions and development schemes, a client fee also applies. Whichever applies, it is set out in writing before you commit to an application, and it never varies according to which lender you choose.
No. We arrange finance. Decisions on company structure, pension purchases, capital allowances and tax treatment should be taken with your accountant and, where relevant, an independent financial adviser. We work alongside them and will speak to them directly if that helps the transaction.
Next step
Speak to someone who has done it
Whether you are buying your first dental, medical or veterinary practice, or any other healthcare-related business, the first conversation costs nothing — and usually saves you time and money, and gets you in front of the correct lender.
